On Minimal Tools
Every tool you adopt is a tool you have to maintain. The fewer moving parts in your setup, the less time you spend fixing it and the more time you spend actually working.
My rule of thumb: prefer programs that read and write plain text, that can be composed together, and that will still run on whatever computer I own in ten years.
